Micro needling
Micro needling Is a clever way to induce collagen production.
It can treat the following skin issues:-
- Wrinkles
- Fine lines
- Acne scars
- Pigmentation
- Enlarged pores
- Hair loss
- Stretch marks
- Uneven skin tone and texture
So How does it work?
Fine sterile needles are used to penetrate the skin in a rotational and manner in order to puncture the skin. This in turn activate the healing process putting the skin into high alert to repair damaged skin. But don’t worry the damage is all superficial. The maximum depths of the needles are 2.5mm. This ‘injury’ promotes the laying down of collagen (which gives the skin strength) and elastic (which improves elasticity) in a uniform manner and that’s why it can smooth out scars such as acne scars.
Not only that’s the skin will feel stronger, firmer, smoother and will glow.
There are 3 stages in micro needling
- Inflammation – micro needling triggers the body’s immune response.

2. Remodelling new skin appears 3.New Healthy skin forms.

There are 2 ways we can deliver microneedling. At our Cheltenham Clinic we use the derma FNS needling pen which gives more precision.
Dermaroller – This is a hand held rolling device which depends on the pressure of the roller on the skin to determine the depth of penetration. So its dependent on how much force the practitioner delivers. There are different depths of dermaroller.
- Derma pens- These are more accurate and are electrically charged. They have certain depths which the practitioner can control so eg the forehead where there is little volume wouldn’t be as deep as say the cheek area. The mm range from 0.5mm-3mm
Microneedling can be combined with other treatments such as PRP(platelet rich plasma) as the plasma may be needled into the skin, serum can be needled to the skin to give eg hydration and vitsmin nourishment.
There’s no significant downtime with this minimally invasive procedure. You will experience mild redness and irritation for 2 – 3 days after Micro needling, but this will subside quickly.
We will give you a recovery pack to use for the next 5 days following treatment . Its important not to use any active skin care ingredients in this period as it may cause irritation.
The recovery pack serums enhance recovery time and give optimal results.
Does it hurt?
Nno as we use numbing cream which is applied and left on for 20mins rior to your treatment.
Why can’t I use a home roller ?
Dermarollers are, as Dermatologists agree they may not bring you the most effective results you’d get from a professional treatment. Why? The devices the devices ar e built for “at-home” use have shorter needle depths that vary between 0.1 mm-0.3mm and are designed mainly to enhance skin-care ingredient absorption, not create the ‘micro-injuries’ needed for skin remodelling.
Microneeding tools used in clinic by medical professionals have needles ranging from 0.5mm-3mm that perforate the skin at deeper levels. This deeper depth requires advanced professional qualifications and training to deliver safe and effective treatment. Microneedling should only be administered by a qualified professional in a clinical environment.
Who can’t have micro needling ?
- If you’re pregnant nor breast feeding
- If you have broken skin or any skin disorders
- If you’ve active acne
- Under 18years
