How does red vein removal work?

Let’s look into what red facial veins are!

Also called Telangiectasia- its a condition in which broken small red blood vessels that sit near the surface of the skin & create visible patterns and lines . As we age these vessels become weaker and bleed causing an enlarged visible network of vessels . These are usually seen on the nose, cheeks and chin legs and ankles. you may have heard of spider naevae, where the blood supply arises from the centre and spindles in an outward direction (looks like a spider’s legs).

At your consultation here in Cheltenham we go through a thorough medical history to ascertain if you are suitable for the laser treatment.

If you have warts, moles, ingrown hairs, cold sores, inflammed skin, acne, scarring, tattooed skin near the area to be treated you are not suitable . caution should  also be treated with hormonal treatment . Anti depressants, diuretics & malaria tablets.

Contraindications are pregnancy, epilepsy, diabetes, haemophilia, blood clots, auto immune conditions, retinoids and steroid treatments  should all be avoided .

How are red veins  caused?

It may be genetic – you may notice that members of your family halve spider veins

Sun exposure – Sun damage can damage blood vessels and draw them closer to the surface of the skin

Changes in temperature-  drastic changes in temperature can cause changes in circulation in the body and may cause broken blood vessels to appear. The blood vessel may burst may cause spider vein.

Changes in pressure –  Sudden extreme changes may cause  broken blood vessels to appear . Sneezing and vomiting may cause this.

Pregnancy-  can cause flushing and red due to increased blood supply and enlarged veins. these usually disappears after birth .

Roseacea- The skin becomes flushed resulting in enlarged veins. Rosacea patients usually experience spider veins.

Alcohol- It dilates vessels on a temporary basis but with prolonged consumption will cause broken blood vessels on the face

Injury- facial or head injury that causes bruising may cause dilated blood vessels that are visible.

With many of my patients in Cheltenham facial red veins are a problem that they’ve lived with for years getting worse as they get older. Vasculase gives instant results allowing you to go home with fewer superficial veins. Sometimes you require more than one treatment to achieve the desired result.

How does it work?

The wavelength of the laser is absorbed by the haemoglobin in the vein this in turn heats the vein targeting the full depth of the blood vessel. The heat causes the coagulation and the breakdown of the cells allowing the vessel wall to collapse and the waste is removed naturally by the body.

We trace the vein from the outside in obliterating the blood supply and collapsing the vein so it disappears immediately or sometimes darkens if they’re deep and disappears later.

Expected side effects are erythema, redness bumps and sometimes small blisters
