Thread lift by Helen Cleland of Cheltenham, is referred to as the 'non-surgical facelift'. Thread Lift is a minimally-invasive treatment that lifts sagging folds or ageing areas of the face without the need for sedation or hospital stay. The procedure works by lifting, remodelling and stimulating collagen production. Regaining skin firmness and strength.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic taking approximately 45 minutes. Patients are able to return home shortly after. A non-surgical facelift (PDO thread lift) is a contouring and rejuvenation treatment. PDO (Polydioxanone) threads are introduced beneath the surface of your skin to improve its appearance for 18 to 24 months. The sutures used in the treatment are completely bio-degradable, meaning they will not need to be removed. Their principle component, polylactic acid, encourages the body's production of collagen, meaning your skin will appear naturally fuller over time, even after the sutures have dissolved. This procedure targets jowls, mid and lower face as well as the neck and decolletage. Threads can be used for fine and deep lines and wrinkles to improve skin texture and conditioning. Thread Lift - The ResultsThe PDO thread lift gently lifts and repositions tissues that sagging, wrinkled and lack integrity resulting in a “lift” and enhancing skin quality. Hollow cheeks appear fuller, while any sagginess is lifted and wrinkles are eased. DowntimeDowntime after a Thread Lift treatment is minimal. You may experience some very slight bruising or swelling in the days following your procedure, and some mild tension in the elevated areas. Your practitioner will give you individual advice tailored to your lifestyle to ensure your recovery is as quick as possible. Polydioxanone has been used in medicine for over 20 years, mainly for absorbable threads used in surgery. As we age collagen and elastin depletes. Our skin can loose facial tone and fine lines, wrinkles, and creases appear. Losing this protein, combined with a natural loss of fat on the face, can hollow the upper cheeks and create heaviness above the jaw line (jowl) and around the chin (marionette lines), giving a tired and aged look.

PDO Thread Therapy is also useful to help prevent the signs of ageing and regular treatments will help reduce the chance of needing surgery one day.

PDO (Polydioxanone) is a biodegradable synthetic polymer traditionally used as sutures in surgery. PDO has been around for over three decades and used daily in hospitals for wound closure and cataract surgical procedures.

When used for aesthetic purposes it is a highly effective, safe, non-surgical technique that lifts and tightens the skin, redefines facial contours, induces collagen production and lipolysis. It is often referred to as a “non- surgical facelift”, creating a more youthful appearance.

The duration depends on the age of the patient, lifestyle, quality of tissues, medication and general health and diet. PDO thread treatment is a continuous process and regular additional threads are required at 6 to 9 month interval.

PDO Threads are classified as CE Class III medical devices and like all foreign material entering the body there are temporary side effects associated with PDO Thread Therapy which can include: pain, bruising, discomfort, feeling of irritation, erythema, oedema, itching, fever, scabs and inflammation. Granulomas can occur when the condition of the product is changed by neglecting the management of the product, which can aggravate existing inflammation.

PDO Threads can be used to contour the face, treat wrinkles, improve skin quality, reduce pores, tighten the skin, reduce the double chin (submental fat pad) and to create a V shape Jawline. Other indications include tissue healing, tendon trauma (tennis elbow, golf elbow), frozen shoulder and muscle relaxation.
